FO Friday – Everyday Skirt

Pattern: Everyday Skirt by Oliver and S

Fabric: Robert Kaufman Chambray Union in Chambray Dot

It took a while, but I have finally sewn up the first item from my sewing plans post back in February. I started with this chambray skirt because it’s one of the easiest items on my list and I knew it would immediately become a wardrobe staple. The pattern was very easy to follow and I love how it turned out – without any mods! The hem was exactly right for me to wear the skirt at my waist – great for me, but as I’m petite it means most sewists would need to add length to the pattern for versions meant to be worn at the natural waist.

I think this is such a great take on the jeans skirt. The chambray is light and comfortable to wear and will easily integrate into my existing wardrobe. In the warm months (the majority of the time for me!) I can tuck in any tank or tee. In the fall and winter I think it will look great with tights and a sweater.

The elastic waist is one of my favorite features of this skirt. My health struggles this year have meant a lot of changes to my body and I wanted to make a piece that would fit during that process. I prefer the look of the skirt at my natural waist, but it is nice that it’s flexible enough to wear lower on my hips, too.

I’m definitely planning on making a flannel version for fall and winter, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a few more versions ended up in my closet eventually.
