Two years ago I knit my daughter a Goldilocks. Ever since it has been one of her favorite dresses, and she has proven herself to be extremely knitworthy by taking great care of it. So, when she recently outgrew it and requested a new knit dress I happily agreed. I suggested the multicolored skein for the skirt and let her pick out a bodice yarn from my stash. I love what we ended up with.

I had a vision for exactly what I wanted this dress to look like, so I decided to design it myself to meet my specifications. The bodice is knit at a tighter gauge and has top-down set-in sleeves. The skirt is much looser to drape and move with her. Garter stitch borders tie it together and keep the skirt from rolling.

It was a gift to me that she chose the skein she did for the bodice. It was one of those skeins I would have thought too special to ever pick a project for on my own. Yet now that it is knit up I am so glad it is out in the world being loved. This skein is so special because it was a gift from the dyer – every year she runs a giftapalooza in her group where members are paired together and while yarn is exchanged community is clearly the greatest gift. An incredibly thoughtful internet friend nominated me to receive a skein as someone who could use a little extra cheer this year. This skein represents a huge loving community that has rallied around me and I love that I was able to knit it while recovering from my very last cancer treatment. Now I can see that love wrapped around my girl and I feel so very lucky. Thank you to everyone here reading and to everyone who has supported me this past year. Our family is so fortunate to know you all.
